Transaxle Magnet

The Iron Trap is designed to capture as much ferrous metal dust as possible inside your Vanagon manual transaxle by pulling it against the bottom pan, helping reduce compounding wear over time.

It uses a large N52 neodymium magnet with over 60 lbs of pull force. This creates a magnetic field that passes through the transaxle case and extends deep into the oil, reaching much farther than the stock drain plug magnet. It attracts floating magnetic dust, particles, and small chunks, including fine material that can pass through even very fine filters, or go completely unfiltered in most setups. It captures debris both while the oil is moving and as it settles when the transaxle is at rest. The magnet is strong enough to hold nearly 2 lbs against the inside wall of the oil pan.

After draining the oil, a simple flathead screwdriver can be used to pry the Iron Trap off. The thin end also houses a strong, albeit smaller, N52 neodymium magnet which is placed exactly where the material would have accumulated.

The Iron Trap fits tightly against the transaxle, nesting into one of two grooves in the case for a very low-profile install. You can run one or two units for increased effectiveness. It hooks onto both sides of the transaxle for a secure, tool-free mount, and is made from TPU for durability in harsh conditions.

Disclaimers:

Do not remove the Iron Trap before draining the oil. Removing it with oil still in the transaxle can release trapped debris back into circulation.
